Film Magazine covers

Film magazines are not purchased as much anymore due to the media being more advanced in a technological way. People are less likely to purchase them when they have use of the internet to browse  film reviews, articles, trailers and many more. However, magazine companies like Empire and Total Film are continuing to create them.
The typical audience of film magazines would be males aged around 30+ that particularly take an interest in films. Film magazine covers typically include the Magazine title, the price and date, the actor in character of a film which stands out, and plugs to get the reader to purchase the magazine. Numerous promotion is usually included on the covers, which is only ever other films as these magazine's only content is film.

This Magazine cover includes all the basic features of a generic film magazine cover. The use of colours and lighting is effective in the respect that it creates a mysterious mood in which suits the film being advertised itself. The colours of the image, which is Harry potter (actor Daniel Radcliffe) are very dull and dark, which makes the title of the magazine stand out. Dull and dark colours are normally associated with mystery and danger which ties in with the magical film. However, the title being red matches the jacket in which you can see the character wearing, which is also red. The colour red is normally associated with danger and pain, which links in with the later harry potters as Harry faces a fierce and dangerous battle with dark magic and voldermort himself. You can see on the front cover that this is the 6th harry potter, so this colour scheme has been purposely used to match aspects of the film.

This film magazine cover is from the Thriller film Shutter Island. The main character of the film is Leonardo Dicaprio and he is displayed on the magazine cover. The gloomy colours and contrast of the picture suggests mystery and a dark side to the film. The expression on the characters face displays determination, concerntration or maybe confusion, possibly even anger. From viewing the film I infact know that his facial expression reflects the films story line well. The film itself is very thrilling to the audience as there is a massive twist, and the main character 'Teddy' or 'Andrew' is infact a confused patient. The character on the magazine cover is wearing a suit, which suggests to the audience that he has a professional job, which reflects the fact that in the film he enters Shutter Island as a US Marshall. In the characters hand there is a gun, which shows danger and the possibility of voilence. The red font on the magazine cover displays violence and possibly even death.
