Evaluation - How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

YouTube (www.youtube.com)
YouTube is a website on the internet in which enables you to explore videos in which users have uploaded. This includes music videos, trailers, documentaries, interviews and many more. We used youtube as our main research tool, we watched many trailers to get familiar with media conventions and get inspiration.Without YouTube it would have been much more difficult to explore different trailers and research different aspects of media texts. From using YouTube we were able to get ideas from other film trailers, such as the quotes from 'Remember Me' and the fading in and out effect from 'The Blind Side.'

Google (www.google.com)
When it came to understanding media terminology or anything else we were not sure of, we used Google to find out answers. Google is search engine, therefore we could type anything we wanted to know into the search bar and it would give us many answers. We also used Google to research into the different genres for our initial research when we chose to do a drama. However, due to the internet being sometimes unreliable this meant that at times we got different answers from different websites which lead to a bit of confusion. But the majority of the time Google was a very useful tool for our research.

iMovie (editing software)
When it came to editing our footage we had problems getting the footage onto final cut express, which is the software we wanted to use for editing. Last year when completing our AS coursework we had the same problem, therefore we knew that we had to use iMovie to export the footage into final cut express. Although we didn't use iMovie to actually edit the footage, it was still a necessary software tool to get us to the next stage of the coursework. We could have edited all of our footage on iMovie but we were more familiar with final cut express from using it to do our foundation portfolio (AS coursework).

Final cut express
We edited all of our footage to produce our film trailer on this software. We were already familiar with it from completing our foundation portfolio (AS coursework) therefore we could remember the main functions needed to edit our film. There was a few things we couldn't remember, and resulted to using YouTube to look at videos and tutorials which helped us a lot. We are now able to use nearly all of the functions the software can offer, and we were able to edit our film to a professional level. Without final cut express our film trailer would not have turned out any where near how we wanted it to. I have learned a lot from this software, I feel confident enough to edit any type of media text on it.

Evaluation - What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Throughout the editing process for our film trailer we changed many aspects throughout. For example at first we opened the film trailer with shopping scenes and then the waking up scene. From allowing our peers to watch what we had we got feedback which made our film a lot better. We altered the footage to put quick shots of the two characters getting ready, this not only made the audience more familiar with the characters and told them more about their personalities and interests, but also gave a better opening to the trailer. The majority of the changes we made to our film was in the final cut express editing stage of the production, therefore they were changes made quickly and there is no print screens for evidence. However, we did made some changes after we published it the first time.

This is our first publishing of our film trailer:

This is our final film trailer:

As you can see there are small editing changes, such as the background music from the black and white scene has been taken away. From audience feedback they thought that this music was better in the waking up scene and that it was un-necessary in the beginning scene. Also the transition from the night out to the waking up scene has changed. We had quite a lot of feedback from peers that was about this part of the trailer, that they thought the transition was not perfected enough. By receiving suggestions we decided to get rid of the blurred music and the slowing down of the last night out scene, a lot of feedback said that it would be better for the music to just stop. We then realised that in fact it did look better this way, and it was more conventional to keep our trailer like this. We also edited the 'from the best seller by Rupert Browning' into the getting ready scene as we felt that it flowed better when was this way.
Another piece of feedback we got was that the background music when Emily woke up should be carried on when she is on the phone, because it would make the clip look more like a trailer rather than part of the actual film which was the vibe that a lot of viewers were getting. So we carried on this music further throughout the phone call scene, which also blended in the speech to flow better as well.
When the caption 'a story of two girls' comes on screen we also added a cinematic bang, and this gave a much more dramatic feel to the trailer. When showing the audience the new version of our trailer a lot of people said that they really liked the sound effect.
The last change we made was the crying scene of when Emily finds out she is pregnant. We initially thought this scene was a bit too long for a trailer, and it wasn't conventional to have a scene that long. When we got the feedback from the audience they picked up on this scene too, therefore we shortened it and sped it up a little so it didn't drag but still looked dramatic.
After reviewing our film trailer with these changes made, we are very glad we got audience feedback in the editing stage of our film because this enabled us to make our film look a lot more professional and flow a lot better.

Final feedback
We are very happy with our final feedback, everyone said they really enjoyed the film and also understood the narrative. Everyone who viewed our final film said they would go and see it at the cinema which reassures us that our film trailer is a success. The only criticisms from our final feedback are that there could be more dialect included as the scene with Emily talking on the phone is the only speech scene, which doesn't allow the audience to get to know the characters as in depth as they potentially could.

Evaluation - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

The type of product we wanted to create was targeted for a mass audience. Our target audience was young females aged 15-25. However at the same time our promotional package was targeting a niche audience which was the mothers of these young females. A lot of teenagers watch films with their mother as found from research, therefore it is likely that a lot of women aged 35-55 would be viewing our film too.

I think that our film trailer is a success, I think it is well suited to the target audience. Young females can relate to the characters as they are young, fashionable, outgoing and a bit rebellious from time to time. Every young female also has a best friend that they potentially would be lost without, therefore I think that they would be able to relate to the film in that respect too. I think this is same with our film magazine and poster, the viewer can see that the film is aimed at young females, by displaying the friendship and image of the two characters. However, I think that if our film contained an attractive male as a main character then it would attract more of our target audience.I think this because many young females watch action films starring attractive male actors such as Liam Hemsworth, Leonardo Dicaprio etc because they like the actor rather than the film itself.

I think that our main product (the film trailer) is the strongest out of the three media texts. However I think that the main weakness of the trailer is that there isn't enough random footage to dis focus the audience from the pregnancy story line. Most trailers contain random other events that occur around the main disruption to the narrative, where as ours is very focused on the main disruption. I think the trailer would be more interesting if there was a few more random quick shots.  We struggled to portray the story line and friendship in the film poster, as we thought including a child would be too forward and would confuse the audience, especially as we hadn't included the main narrative disruption in our film trailer. We also didn't want our film poster to look cheesy by displaying the best friends hugging or anything like that as film posters always look very professional and effective. We overcame this problem by settling for a screenshot of footage taken at Capstone park, where Emily tells Frankie about her pregnancy. This image does show the friendship between the two characters, as you can see Emily is upset and Frankie is listening and cares about her. I think the main weakness of the film poster is the lack of narrative within it, it doesn't really show as much about the story line as we wanted it to. With our film magazine I think there  is less to go wrong with this media text, as we followed media conventions closely. However I think the main weakness is the image we used, as I think we could have got a more effective one displaying Emily as being worn out and distressed showing something bad happens within the film. The image we used suggests the magazine contains an interview, which I think still follows media conventions however we would have preferred a more dramatic image to match the genre.

Evaluation - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Film trailer
There are many conventions of film trailers, although all trailers are different, they stick to general set of rules because they have been tried and tested and equal a successful trailer if followed. However over a number of years film trailers have changed and evolved, as have their films and audiences.

The rating card
Rating cards are used at the beginning of every single film trailer, the rating card shows what kind of audience the film/trailer is suitable for. A green rating card means that it is suited for any audience, so it is Universal. Our fillm/trailer is Universal because it does not contain any violence, discrimination, sexual scenes or anything else that could potentially cause distress to the viewer.

Film production logo
Usually within the first part of the trailer, the film production logo will be shown. A reason for this is because the film productions reputation can benefit the film trailer, as if the audience enjoyed another film produced by Touchstone pictures, then they will be interested in our film. It also creates an idea of the type of film that is trying to sell, for example if the film was produced by dream works, then it will have a big budget and its main aim is to suit the whole family. We chose touchstone pictures as our film production as this company is usually associated with emotional films, such as the last song. I think it suited our film and its genre perfectly.

Introducing characters
Every film trailer introduces the characters in a scene that best represents their personality and interests. At the beginning of our trailer there is a few quick scenes in black and white displaying a voice over, but this scene is when the audience really gets to know the characters. In this scene the two friends are getting ready for a night out, they are wearing fashionable clothing which suggests that they are trendy and care about their appearance. In this scene Emily is laughing at Frankie, which shows their strong friendship and suggests to the audience that this film is about two best friends.

Reviews
The majoirty of film trailers contain a quoted review from a popular institution. These reviews are often included in trailers to ensure the audience that this film is very enjoyable. Due to our film being a drama, we chose the quote "emotional from start to finish" and quoted it by the independent. The independent is a very well known institution and would be instantly recognised by the audience and could influence them to go and see it at the cinema.

Music and voice overs
Music and voice over are always used in film trailers, there isn't a single film trailer that does not have one or the other. Some of the music used is discrete and digetic, where as some is non-digetic. At the beginning of our film Emily says "Someone once said that friends never compare to family, but what happens if your friend is your only family." Instantly this shows the audience that the two characters have a very strong friendship and Emily could potentially be from a troubled background with no parental figures. We got inspiration to do this quote from the film trailer 'Remember Me.' We also use three choices of music, that all contrast each other. The first piece of music is upbeat which suggests a positive lifestyle, where as the second piece brings the story line down to earth, and the third piece is dramatic to show the crisis within the plot.

Captions and quotes
All films contain captions and quotes to give a more depth explanation of the story line to the viewer. In our film trailer it contains quite a few captions and quotes, this is to erase any confusion that the audience may have. It also makes the film trailer look effective, the caption "A story of two young girls..." is obvious yet effective. The audience know the story is about two young girls because they would have by this point identified them as the main characters.

Establishing shot
From viewing other film trailers, it came to our attention that the majority had an establishing shot, whether the actual scene was relevant to the film or not. For this reason we decided to include an establishing shot. This is from the scene that Emily tells Frankie she is pregnant, it is an emotional scene and we thought it would be good to include this as the establishing shot, especially as it is gloomy and sets a dramatic mood.

Film poster
When we were creating our film poster, we reviewed many other film posters in order to ensure we followed media conventions. By following this, we were able to create a professional looking poster. We started off by using a scene in which we had in our footage, when Frankie is comforting Emily. However, in film posters they usually only contain one character, so we challenged media conventions in that respect. We then added faded headshot photos of Emily and Frankie at the bottom of the poster. This followed media conventions as in the Last Song's poster, there are faded images of Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth whilst there is another image of them at the bottom of the poster. We also included a big bold title, which every film poster includes. We wanted to insure that the first thing the viewer sees is the title, so it sticks in their head. We also included above the title 'Touchstone pictures presents' as it is conventional to do include the production company.
Another media convention that we found whilst reviewing other film posters, was that they sometimes include a type of catch phrase to give a little insight into the film. For this reason we included 'With only one to depend on', we took this from our film trailer as we thought it was an effective quote.
We also included a billing block. however, we couldn't get the actual font used for billing blocks therefore this could be seen as challenging media conventions. But we did follow the content template for billing blocks.

Film magazine
For our magazine we used a well known magazine producer for film, Total Film. This magazine is recognised by many and therefore it would attract more of an audience than an Unknown one. On our magazine we followed media conventions very closely. The characters on magazines usually have a expression-less face, therefore we chose to have Emily on our magazine cover, with an straight face. Magazines also only have one character on the front, so it was conventional to have just Emily as the story line revolves around her. We also contained different front texts on our magazine, as no magazine has the same font throughout. We also put text in shapes such as circles, and a square. We also included social media, such as website address. This a modern convention for media texts, the majority of new films would include social media.
Social media text included.
Font title plus the authors name. Promotional offers for blockblusters.
Conventional image of character showing no expression. Issue number and bar code.
Front title plus a promotion of the hunger games (Jennifer Lawrence interview)

Final audience feedback from a peer

Lauren recorded some feedback for us when viewing our final film. She also viewed our first attempt of our trailer so she could see the difference and thought it was a big improvement.

Editing

Film trailer
We edited our film using Final cut express, in our AS coursework we used this software therefore we were familiar with it. A lot of the other students making film trailers decided to use iMovie, which is an easier software to use however we felt as we had already used Final cut express, we would rise to the challenge and use it to edit our A2 film trailer. We could remember the main functions needed to edit the film but had to use youtube for certain filters and to add text as we had forgot. We found it easy to pick up on techniques in which we had used last year such as adding a cross fade to make the footage fade in and out so it ran smoothly. However, a few problems did arise through the editing of our film such as how to add text into it. We struggled to get the text how we wanted, as we wanted the letters to gradually build up to make the text 'e.g - from the author Rupert Browning', in the end we stuck with a simple fade in and out on top of the footage.

It took us a long time to edit our film, initially our film took priority over the poster and magazine as it required the most work and time. We made a lot of changes after receiving feedback from peers to get our over all film. Initially the 'morning after' scene was too long so we had to cut it by almost half to make it appear as a quicker shot which is what a film trailer is conventionally like.
My favorite function on Final cut express is the duration tool, we used it to speed up certain parts of the trailer and slow down other parts. I think this made the trailer look very effective towards the end when Emily swings her head around on the field. We achieved this shot by carefully filming around Emily from a 180 degree angle, when we stood paralell (in front of her) she flipped her head down giving off a 'mental' look, she then stood up and carried on walking around to complete the 180 degree shot. This is classed as a tracking shot as the camera went around Emily. When we reviewed this footage the camera was wobbly due to not having suitable utensils to film it with, therefore the editing of this footage really saved it.

We slowed down the first 90 degrees of the full 180, this minimised the shaky camera and made it look very professional. We slowed it down by about 75%.
We sped up the part where I was standing parallel to Emily, after half of the 180 degree angle. This made her look confused and insane, which we thought linked to the narrative well as she is torn what to do about her pregnancy.

The film magazine
After finishing our movie trailer; which we spent the majority of our time on, we had a few dilemmas with the magazine and the movie poster. We created and edited the magazine using power point, as we thought this would be the easiest when it came to adding texts and shapes on to it.

The film magazine wasn't too hard to do, we used an image of Emily sitting on the steps outside Rochester cathedral, she is putting a blank expression which we thought looked effective, especially as she is looking direct at the camera. It most magazine front covers is it one character looking at the camera with a blank expression, rarely it is numerous characters like in avengers.
From using a sample film magazine cover we replicated the type of things on it such as texts and promotions with our own twist on it. One thing we noticed is that magazine covers have a lot of text on them, they are almost fully covered it text, therefore we crammed as must as we could onto ours. We also used different fonts for the text as its not conventional to use the same text throughout. We also used the magazine company 'Total Film' as this is a well known magazine brand specifically for film promotion.

We also used shapes to create things that stand out on the magazine. We created a circle and set the colour as yellow to make it stand out and wrote 'The 10 biggest blockbusters you need to see', this made the film magazine look more professional as all magazines have things that stand out in shapes and are bold.

Film poster
When it came to editing our film poster we had several attempts at editing it. Photoshop was crucial for our magazine poster to make it look really effective and professional however none of our group knew how to use it. I attempted to use Photoshop but found it difficult as I had never used it before therefore I used Publisher, Powerpoint and Paint to create it. Firstly we took an image from our footage at Capstone, where Frankie is reassuring Emily on the bridge that she will be there for her throughout the pregnancy.
We then got separate head shot images of the two characters and put a transparent fade onto them, which made them appear slightly see through. We then placed them at the bottom of the poster infront of the Captstone image, this create almost a montage of images which I think looks effective. We then added the title of the film with 'touchstone presents' on it and added a billing block.
From previously researching, I noticed that the majority of all published film posters have the same font for their billing blocks. I further researched into this to see if I could access this font, as this would make our poster look extra professional. The front was called Univers 39 Thin Ultra Condensed, however you had to purchase it which was around £30, so unfortunately we had to find a font that was similar. We also added a sort of catch phrase saying 'with only one to depend on', as a lot of film posters contain one.

Editing process - music

For our film we think that music is very important as it will set the mood from the happy beginning which no worries or tie backs to dramatic as the trailer goes on. Choosing the most suitable music is crucial however we have to ensure that we do not use copy right music.

The first piece of music we needed was something that the two best friends were getting ready to go out to. This music needed to be very upbeat to show they are going to a club and they have no worries. We searched for non-copyright music on youtube and on search engines and had a lot of difficulty finding music that wasn't cheesy and fitted the criteria. This piece of music we found on youtube and it is non-copyright (as stated by in the print screen). It fits the genre liquid drum and base which is a form of dance music. We played around with the music to get it to fit the scenes we needed and decided that we should carry it on through the 'club' scene too as this would work better than getting another piece of music.
Seven lions - Fevers evidence of non-copyright
The next piece of music we needed was something that would begin playing in the background when Emily wakes up from her one night stand. We decided to get a classical dramatic sound to show the audience that what has happened is going to effect Emily badly, we then made this music quiet as when we kept it loud it made the scene look quite freaky and more like a horror or thriller. I think this piece of music fits well with the scene.
The dramatic sound which we used for Emily waking up
When there is a disruption to the narrative, when Emily finds out she is pregnant and the trailer/story line turns dramatic we needed a piece of music that was going to pull on the audiences heart strings. Therefore we decided to remix and put our own twist on a song called Sailor & I. We slowed the piece of music right down to make it slower and more emotional, we thought that it sounded right for the mood change.

Day 6 of filming

12th March

Today we decided that we need a few more 'filler' shots in order to have enough footage to complete our film. From initially editing our film and getting all of the footage in place using final cut express, we found that we had gaps that needed to be filled. For example the part where Emily wakes up from a one night stand cannot be followed by her finding out she is pregnant as we need to show time has passed.

We used this shot for the end of the trailer to show the audience she is pregnant and keeping the baby. She looks washed out and tired showing she is exhausted.

This is showing Emily is torn and confused.

This shot is of Emily with a blank stare to show she is confused.

This shot shows the best friends having a laugh together.

We first decided to go up onto the school field and film there because the weather was perfect for a gloomy scene. The part of the trailer in which we would need this scene is after she has found out that she is pregnant, therefore we want to emphasise the fact that the character doesn't know what to do. We decided to try something new and we filmed the character shaking her head about, this would be edited faster to look like she is going insane and doesn't know what to do. We then filmed some shots on the stairs of the two characters messing around showing they have a good friendship and are always laughing, displaying happiness. We thought that we could use this shot in between the one night stand and Emily finding out she is pregnant. The last part we filmed was Emily pregnant as we needed this shot for the end of the film to show the audience that she keeps the baby. In terms of make up and costume we made sure Emily looked exhausted by her not wearing any makeup. This will show the audience that she alone, tired and her life has changed forever.

Representation

The main characters:
The main characters of the film are two eighteen year old girls. They represent the youth of today due to their behaviour and image. Both of the girls are up with the latest trends in which consists of a creative style. They enjoy going out and having a good time including clubbing, which at the age of 18 they are legal to do so.

Behaviour:
Emily's promiscuous behaviour is due to her bad childhood memories. Her relationship with her mother is not great, her mother is careless and she doesn't give her the attention she needs. Therefore Emily's behaviour is quite rebellious due to craving attention which she doesn't get from her mother. There a lot of teenagers out there with repressed negative childhood memories in which may be quite promiscuous. Emily is a representation of this.

Best friend relationship:
Best friends are typically two individuals who do everything together, they trust each other highly and look out for each other. Emily and Frankie are best friends who spend a lot of time together, they certainly trust each other as Emily feels she can confide in Frankie when she finds out she is pregnant. Frankie helps Emily through the entire duration of the pregnancy and never leaves her side, this shows that they will do anything for each other. I think this is an accurate representation of youth as nearly everyone has a best friend in which is practically family to them. Emily doesn't have a reliable authority figure therefore she also looks up to her best friend, at times in life everyone feels they can confide in their best friend over a family member due to being the same age and having so much in common.

Day 5 of filming

February 20th

In the february half term we decided this would be a great opportunity to film the 'night after' scenes as we would be able to film in bright daylight. We filmed at our friends house who is male therefore has a bedroom which looks more masculine than any of ours. We planned that we were going to get a shot waking up, a shot getting out of the bed showing Emily's feet as she sneaks out, and a shot of her ringing her best friend for help as she 'escapes'. We also decided to film the scene of Emily finding out she is pregnant crying on the bathroom floor as we had the time.

This shows Emily is distraught at her actions.

This shot shows that Emily has just found out she is pregnant.
This shot is of Emily on the phone to Frankie begging her to pick her up.

This shot is of Emily sneaking out quietly.

This shot is of Emily waking up from a one night stand.

All of the footage we filmed today turned out really good and all of it is usable. It took a few attempts to film the bedroom scenes due to the group finding it humorous but we got there in the end and the camera is stable in all of the footage which is a bonus. I think that the scene of Emily getting out the bed and picking up her clothes is a good shot, especially as the mise en scene of the weights show its a boys bedroom and she needs to leave. The shot of her on the phone I also think is good, as the dialect shows she is vulnerable and needs help from her best friend.

Day 4 of filming

February 12th

Today we decided that we would film some small shots that we could add to make our trailer longer. This included a few car scenes to show the two best friends mucking around and also a few pregnancy scenes. We thought we could use these scenes to fill in any gaps. We had to go and pick up the baby bump from one of our houses so on the journey we filmed the car scenes. We then filmed the pregnancy scenes in school, as we wanted it to look like Emily is trying to get on with her normal life being a student but is struggling. To portray this we thought we'd include a scene of her struggling up the stairs in which is located in school.

This shot is of the two girls in the car showing they go everywhere together.

This shot is of Emily struggling up the stairs. She is struggling to live her normal life.

This shot is of Emily struggling.

This shot is establishing the two characters in the car.

We found it difficult to make the baby bump look realistic. The bump we had got hold of was made to show people the weight of a baby rather than what a bump would realistically look like. This meant that the bump looked quite false and lumpy. It took us quite a few attempts to get the bump to look any where near a legit pregnancy bump. As for the car scenes i thought the ideas we had was good however it was difficult to get the camera to keep still due to the bumps in the road whilst driving. However the footage is still useable.

Contrast of music

In our film trailer we want to show the audience the different types of mood that the story line will have on the audience. In our film there is a disruption to narrative when one of the main characters; Emily, finds out she is pregnant. To show this we want to ensure we chose the right music with a suitable tempo and dynamics. At the beginning of the film a happy uptempo song is needed to show the audience that the girls are close friends and live an ordinary happy life. This choice of music will reflect that the girls have no worries and are young and quite naive. An upbeat piece of music will work well with the narrative at this point in the story line, and we want the audience to become attached to the characters so when the disruption occurs, they will be affected emotionally. When there is a disruption to the narrative, such as when the pregnancy is found out the music will change to something dramatic which will pull on the audiences heart strings. The use of a slow touching piece of music will ensure the audience knows that the characters in the film are going through a tough time, and will help bring reality to the story line.

In this film trailer you can see that the use of music really sets the mood of the film, from just watching the trailer the audience can see that this film is going to pull on the heart strings. Particularly at the start of the trailer the music is very calm but at the same time sets a strong emotional pull towards the main character. If the music was more upbeat then it wouldn't be as clear that this film is going to be a dramatic film, as upbeat music suggests a romantic comedy or a film in which could be humorous.

Planning

In order to ensure our film trailer turns out to be realistic and look professional, planning is needed to ensure we know exactly what we need to do.

Film poster planning

For our film poster we wanted something that was going to represent the relationship between the two best friends as well as show the pregnancy within the story line. From reviewing different film posters we got inspiration from a variety of different films.
We have chosen to use the film 'Gone' as our main inspiration for our film poster.

In this film poster you can see there is a physique of a woman, and then within is another character. On the shoulder of this character there is a male figure. This shows 3 different characters in which are shown in an effective way. From instantly seeing this film poster we decided that this would be good for our film.

The physique of the woman could be the figure of pregnancy on our film poster. As Emily falls pregnant this will show the audience that a baby will occur in the film. This pregnant physique will have to be a side angle, to show the bump of the baby. Within the bump can then be images of the two main characters, showing they are together within this situation as their friendship is so strong.

This is the type of physique that we want to set the film poster, the pictures of the characters can then either be edited within the body, like the 'Gone' film poser, or outside of. We could also include a background outside of the figure to show a certain setting, although it will still look effective if it is kept basic.

Editing software:

To edit our film poster we will be using photoshop. Photoshop is designed for editing and is a professional software that requires training. Therefore Amy and Lois will be taking charge of the editing stage of the poster to ensure it is completed effectively and ends up looking good. To take the photos we will be using a Canon camera in which is designed for professional photography purposes.

Film magazine planning
For our magazine poster we decided that we were going to have the main character Emily, on the front cover with an image of Emily and Frankie in the background. We want to show that Emily is alone, however she still has her friendship behind her.

This is photo we will be using for Emily being on her own on the magazine poster. We wanted a photo of her looking direct at the camera, as we will say on the magazine that there is an interview.

On this magazine poster font covers the majority of it, we want to make ours like this to ensure it looks professional. We have decided that we will do a strip across the cover like this one, promoting the magazine as this will make it look professional.

Day 3 of filming

January 25th

We decided that we were going to film little parts of our trailer at a time, this way the characters will be wearing different outfits and it will show time is passing, where as if we filmed it all one day it would look more unprofessional. On this date we decided to film before and during a night out, as we needed to portray Emily as having a one night stand. Emily is a promiscuous character however we wanted the situation to be as realistic as can be, therefore taking the camera on an actual night out with us will require minimal acting which will look real. The effect of alcohol will make Emily go forward with her decisions throughout the night, we also wanted footage before going out so we could display Frankie's and Emily's best friend relationship.

This shot is of Emily and Frankie getting ready before a night out.

This shot is also of Emily and Frankie getting ready before a night out.

The footage that we got wasn't great. Emily hid the camera so that I was not aware of it, therefore there was no acting needed everything was true to life. However for this reason the footage consists of getting ready and not a lot of useable footage is included as I think it's too boring to be put in a trailer. The footage from being out lacks a lot of light meaning it may be unusable too, however we should have plenty more opportunities to refilm this part of the trailer/story line if needed.

Day 2 of filming

January 24th

Today we decided to get some footage in an area in which we could get some good establishing shots. We decided to film at capstone, a nature reserve park in Medway. We thought we'd try and act a scene of Emily telling Frankie that she's pregnant and Emily being there for her, to show their true relationship.

This shot is of Emily distraught telling her best friend what she has done.

This shot is of Emily relying on her best friend to be there for her.

This shot is of Frankie looking back and Emily in shock.

This shot is a two person shot showing their conversation.

This is a two person establishing shot.

This is an establishing shot of Capstone park.

Unfortunately the footage in which we filmed did not come out the way we wanted it to. The acting was quite bad in which didn't look professional and we found it difficult to portray the situation. The weather was also very dull and miserable which set a gloomy mood however it meant that we needed props such as an umbrella and the surfaces were very slippery, we all got very cold too so were not able to film for a long time therefore the shots are limited.
