Contrast of music

In our film trailer we want to show the audience the different types of mood that the story line will have on the audience. In our film there is a disruption to narrative when one of the main characters; Emily, finds out she is pregnant. To show this we want to ensure we chose the right music with a suitable tempo and dynamics. At the beginning of the film a happy uptempo song is needed to show the audience that the girls are close friends and live an ordinary happy life. This choice of music will reflect that the girls have no worries and are young and quite naive. An upbeat piece of music will work well with the narrative at this point in the story line, and we want the audience to become attached to the characters so when the disruption occurs, they will be affected emotionally. When there is a disruption to the narrative, such as when the pregnancy is found out the music will change to something dramatic which will pull on the audiences heart strings. The use of a slow touching piece of music will ensure the audience knows that the characters in the film are going through a tough time, and will help bring reality to the story line. 

In this film trailer you can see that the use of music really sets the mood of the film, from just watching the trailer the audience can see that this film is going to pull on the heart strings. Particularly at the start of the trailer the music is very calm but at the same time sets a strong emotional pull towards the main character. If the music was more upbeat then it wouldn't be as clear that this film is going to be a dramatic film, as upbeat music suggests a romantic comedy or a film in which could be humorous.
